1957 – 1969

Aldrich & Nye was founded in 1957 by Bob Aldrich and Stanley Nye as a milk transportation company with one 1957 Dodge Truck with a 180 can bulk milk tank, servicing 2 farms. Within 3 months they added 2 more trucks and 20 more farms.

Pictured to the left are some of ALNYE’s first employed drivers. During this era drivers not only drove trucks but when they returned to the shop they helped with the mechanics and maintenance of the vehicles. In the mid 60’s Stanley’s oldest son, Don Nye, started working for the company after school and after graduating in 1967 came on fulltime. Don received his driving permit one day, turned around and took his driving test the next day and passed.

In the mid 1960’s they started hauling fuel with Hamilton Wilbur, Coalsins and Hewitt Brothers.

1970 – 1979

Throughout the 70’s the business grew from 5 trucks to 20 trucks. You can see in the picture to the top right the different style of milk tanks in the early 70’s.

By 1979 the style of tanks changed. The blue trucks pictured to the bottom right were detailed with driver’s names on the front.

Stanley’s son, Gary Nye, also started working for the company and in 1970 Don and Gary created a bottled milk delivery business, initially delivering to residences and businesses. The milk delivery business was done in conjunction with farm pick up operations. Gary graduated in 1974, came on full time and became a key part of the business.

In 1973 the fuel business expanded with Petr-All. For Petr-All they transferred heating oil to bulk plants

Pictured to the left are pictures of Don & Gary working in the shop.

1980 – 1989

Throughout the early years, Don and Gary spent many hours repairing the trucks and trailers at night, then driving them during the day.

In 1980, Don & Gary bought the business from their father and Bob Aldrich. They purchased the main terminal, located on 59 Aurora Street in Moravia. In 1985 they built additional office space. This was a time of large growth for the company and the need to purchase new equipment. Don & Gary’s wives, Shelly & Bonnie, also worked with the business and were a huge help to the growing needs of the company. The main operation at that time was delivering multiple loads a day to plants located in NYC and New Jersey. The pictures just below depict the superliners from 1986 and 1987.

1990 – 1999

Throughout the 1990’s, ALNYE continued to grow. Don’s son, Brian, came on board full time in 1994 and took over with the growth of the fuel business. The fuel business has grown from 4 trucks in the early 90’s to 24 trucks today. In 1997, ALNYE purchased a milk transportation company out of the Utica area. Today, the Utica terminal has been a big part of ALNYE’s growth. Don’s other son, Brad, joined the company full time in 1999 and today is in charge of operations.

2000 – 2009

In 2001, ALNYE starting operating out of a 3rd terminal located in Cortland.

During this time period ALNYE management put a huge focus on safety and started a safety program that has evolved into being a key part of success the business sees today. The photos to the left show drivers and mechanics getting a safety course from a New York State DOT Officer during a safety seminar.

In 2009 Don’s daughter Nanette and Gary’s son Ryan both started working for the company. Nanette is the Director of HR and Ryan is the Director of Milk Operations.

Remembering Don Nye

Don Nye Photo
On February 6, 2021 we unexpectedly lost an extra ordinary man, ALNYE’s co-owner, Don Nye. Don dedicated his life to ALNYE. He started working for Aldrich & Nye in high school which was then owned by his father and Bob Aldrich. In 1980, Don and brother Gary Nye, bought the business from them. Their hard work and dedication has built, ALNYE, to the company it is today, one of the largest milk haulers in the North East also hauling petroleum products through out New York State. The early years were spent doing most everything themselves, from repairing trucks, picking up and delivering milk, to handing all the paperwork, bills and payroll. Don still had his finger on every aspect of the business until the day he died. His tireless efforts grew ALNYE by leaps and bounds.

ALNYE not only lost a leader but a kind, generous, caring human being. We lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend. An inspiring mentor to so many. His distinct laugh and wittiness put a smile on everyone’s face.
Don leaves behind a company that he dedicated his life to building and his spirit will forever be the foundation of ALNYE. Today, we honor Don’s memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.
